Medical advances continue to present greater options for women regardless of their fertility and conception experiences. But while fertility options continue to grow with time, a woman’s egg supply and egg quality do not. For this reason, more women are turning to oocyte cryopreservation, or egg freezing, as a way to extend the possibility of fertility.
Through the process of egg freezing, you can freeze and store your unfertilized eggs until you are ready to start or expand your family. Cryopreservation also allows for subsequent frozen embryo (fertilized egg) transfers and additional attempts at conception. This helps to avoid additional stimulation of the ovaries with fertility medications while saving fertilized eggs for use in the future.
Additionally, egg freezing can effectively suspend the ever-present ticking of your reproductive biological clock and provide a viable fertility choice now or in the future if you have received an infertility diagnosis such as PCOS or endometriosis, are facing chemotherapy, surgery or radiation for cancer, have a family history of early menopause or simply desire to preserve fertility for later in life. Egg recipients (see Donor Programs) and IVF patients often choose egg freezing as a means of extending their attempts at achieving pregnancy.
Until recently, egg freezing has been relatively rare. At North Dallas IVF, however, we have the experience and the capability to successfully freeze and thaw eggs through our partnership with the Assisted Reproductive Technology Services (ARTS) program at Texas Health Dallas Hospital Dallas. We use the hospital’s advanced lab capabilities to provide egg freezing/thawing services in a safe and discreet atmosphere.
