Is IVF Right for You?

There are many different causes of infertility, some of which are clear indications that IVF may be the best treatment option. For example, IVF may help obtain pregnancy in patients with tubal factor infertility, where an obstruction in the fallopian tubes may prevent the sperm and the egg from meeting, thus impeding fertilization from occurring. Similarly, IVF in conjunction with ICSI may help patients with significant male factor infertility as well.

IVF may also be recommended for a woman with unexplained infertility who has undergone several unsuccessful attempts with fertility medications and intrauterine insemination.

Common indications for IVF include:

  • Significant adhesions or scar tissue
  • A history of damage to the fallopian tubes
  • Past tubal ligation
  • Endometriosis
  • Unsuccessful attempts with other types of infertility treatment
  • Male factor infertility
  • Unexplained infertility
